About Community Scouts

Who are Community Scouts

Community Scouts are dedicated and compassionate citizens who play an essential role in the well-being of their local communities. They are volunteers  that commit their time and energy to performing a variety of simple yet crucial tasks for older adults, ensuring they receive the support they need to maintain their independence and quality of life. From assisting with daily errands to providing companionship, Community Scouts are always ready to lend a helping hand.

Moreover, Community Scouts stay vigilant, keeping an eye out for any signs that a neighbour might need additional support or assistance. They serve as the community’s eyes and ears, often identifying issues before they escalate. By collaborating closely with local professionals, such as nurses, social workers, and other healthcare providers, Community Scouts support a coordinated and comprehensive approach to community care.

Through their dedication and proactive efforts, Community Scouts create a safer, more connected, and supportive environment for everyone. Their work not only helps individuals in need but also strengthens the fabric of the community as a whole.

What do Community Scouts do?

  • Perform small tasks and provide companionship to those in need.
  • Maintain regular contact with local professionals to ensure comprehensive support.
  • Understand the challenges of ageing and help address them within the community.
  • Arrange events like neighbourhood BBQs and deliver flowers to those who are sick or grieving.

About the project

Europe is ageing, making it increasingly challenging to provide professional care for older people. Informal caregiving is therefore gaining importance. As a professional, collaborating effectively with volunteers, residents, loved ones, or family members becomes crucial. What skills do you need as a citizen to support older people in your community? To answer these questions, the Community Scouts project was launched. Led by AFEdemy, this Erasmus+ initiative aims to empower citizens and professionals to provide essential support to older adults in their communities. The project is set to launch a comprehensive training and toolkit designed to empower citizens in supporting older adults within their communities.

Project Objectives and Results

The Community Scouts project has the following objectives:

1
Further develop a professional and attractive training toolkit for training community scouts in supporting older adults in their own community which will be available online to a wide audience. In this project we will build upon existing materials, experiences and best practices.
2
Introduce new organisations in the consortium to the Erasmus+ programme.
3
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.
The project will lead to a comprehensive and attractive training toolkit for Community Scouts that can be used independently by citizens themselves or by professionals who want to work more closely with citizens.
